On the eve of the longest day of the year, in celebration of the light and the turning of the Celtic season, join writer and host Clare Mulvany for a special Summer Solstice Poetry Salon. Set within the ancient bawn of Knockelly Castle, we will gather around a campfire for an intimate evening of poetry, writing and gentle creative ritual.

  • Knockelly Castle is a family owned 15th-century tower house, bawn and farmstead nestled in the South Tipperary countryside. A place that has quietly witnessed 550 years of Irish life and is layered with local folklore and charming love stories, it is one of those rare places where history feels genuinely present. On the longest day of the year, with the light lingering late over the fields, it is particularly magical.

  • A notebook and pen, warm clothes, sturdy footwear and a blanket.

  • Our address is Knockelly Castle, Fethard, Co. Tipperary. The Eircode is E91 ND29. Find us on Google Maps. There is plenty of parking on site. We are approximately 15 minutes from both Clonmel and Cashel, 35 minutes from both Cahir and Kilkenny.

  • Knockelly is an active conservation site and we are working to improve accessibility with every phase of works. We do not yet have a wheelchair accessible toilet on site.     Peppardstown House is the nearest accommodation to Knockelly, just down the road with sweeping views of Knockelly and across Tipperary.     The Townhouse Fethard is a lovingly restored four-bedroom period townhouse in the heart of medieval Fethard, sleeping up to six. Airbnb

    Hotels

    The Horse and Jockey Hotel is a well-loved four-star family-run hotel in the heart of Co. Tipperary, about 30 minutes away, with a spa, pool, and excellent food. horseandjockeyhotel.com

    In Cashel, about 15 minutes away, the Cashel Palace Hotel and Baileys Hotel are both excellent options. In Clonmel, also around 15 minutes, the Minella Hotel and Raheen House Hotel are well worth considering.
